With Spring around we make a lot of plans. Exercise, Cleaning, Hiking, Bushwalking and much more!!
Let's make a checklist of what we can do without pets and let's also make sure we don't do something that is not safe for our pets.
Things to do:
- Go Camping, pack sufficient food and medication for yourself and your pet. Pack a bedding, extra leash\harness for them. Make sure they are micro-chipped. Microchipping of utmost importance as it helps in case of any emergencies. Make sure they are vaccinated so that they have all-round protection.
- Take a Swim. This is a good form of exercise as well as relaxation. Your pet might love this as it is not only play but also a bonding time.
- Walk or Work out together. Your pet can be your best personal trainer.
- Bushwalking, always carry first aid and your emergency contact details. This helps them be active and also with socialisation.
- When choosing a pet-friendly cafe for a lovely sunny morning breakfast, bring your own BOWL at the cafes. It helps avoid contamination.
- Pet-friendly travel plans. Many of us do love to travel with our pets. Make sure you have your pet's passport updated, have their medication and prescription with you. Remember to carry a fit to fly certificate if you choose to fly. Keep their shots up to date and their Micro-chip details up-to-date as well. Always update your pet's microchip details up to date as they are your main point of contact since they can't speak for themselves.
- In case if you are moving to a different location, make sure you ask your vet to keep your pet's history and details file ready. This will help you when you take your pet to a new vet in a new city. Give them a nice pampering session.
Things to take care of:
- Don’t allow them to drink from the puddle. You would never know who has had drunk from it and how badly contaminated it might be.
- Some spring plants are poisonous for your furry friend. Keep out of reach for bouquets if you are unsure of the flower or leaves included in it.
- Due to winters, your pet might have got used to being inside the house or they may have reduced movement. Make sure they are reintroduced going out, walking and exercising slowly.
- Instead of just picking up a stick from the ground, buy a safe, pet-friendly fetching toy. Mainly because you don't want to take risk of a broken stick hurting your fur baby's mouth in any way.
- Spring is a clean your house time as well, make sure you keep cleaning tools and products\rat poison out of reach of your children and your pets.
- Check their Fur, Leashes, Harnesses and Collars for any parasites.
- Flea and tick control, prevention and treatment. When talking about Flea and tick, different parasites have different effects on your pet. Flea and Tick can also affect your family and thus it is important that you treat not only your pets but also your family if you encounter any flea and tick on your pet or in your house. Talk to your vet for the best prevention and treatment plans for your pets.
- Overexposure to the sun affects not only you but also your pet.
